The Acura ZDX at $65k: A Pricier Choice than the Cadillac Lyriq

The Acura ZDX: Electric Luxury with a Hefty Price Tag

Acura's latest electric crossover, the ZDX, is set to hit dealerships this spring, and with the unveiling of its pricing, it's making quite a statement. Starting at $64,500, the ZDX enters the market with a higher price point than its competitor, the Cadillac Lyriq, which comes in at $57,195 before destination fees.

What makes this comparison even more interesting is Cadillac's offer of a $7,500 incentive to compensate for the lack of a tax credit. This brings the effective price of the Lyriq down to $49,695 before destination, making the Acura ZDX a whopping $14,805 more expensive despite sharing the same platform and powertrains.

The 2024 ZDX A-Spec, described by Acura as "exceptionally well-equipped," adds to the allure. Although details are scarce at this point, we know it boasts a fully enclosed Diamond Pentagon grille, Jewel Eye LED headlights, 20-inch wheels, and a straightforward interior. Inside, you'll find an 11-inch digital instrument cluster, an 11.3-inch infotainment system featuring Google integration, and an impressive 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Powering the ZDX is a 102 kWh lithium-ion battery connected to a rear-mounted motor producing 340 hp. This combination promises a respectable range of around 325 miles, with a quick 10-minute DC fast charge delivering approximately 81 miles of range.

For those interested in more power and all-wheel drive, the ZDX A-Spec offers a dual-motor variant at $68,500. While specifics are limited, this version is expected to be more potent, boasting a range of about 315 miles.

Stepping up to the ZDX Type S, priced at $73,500, brings a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with an impressive 500 hp. This powerhouse enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than five seconds. However, the trade-off is a slightly reduced range of 288 miles.

The Type S comes equipped with adaptive dampers and an adjustable air suspension, along with stylish 22-inch wheels and Brembo front brakes featuring yellow six-piston calipers. Notably, it includes Hands-Free Cruise, essentially a rebranded version of GM's Super Cruise.

While the Acura ZDX may raise eyebrows with its pricing, the company is sweetening the deal by offering one of three charging packages for free. These include a Level 2 Home Charging Station with installation credits, a Portable Charging Kit, or an option tailored for apartment living with increased EVgo and Electrify America credits.

As a bonus, buyers will receive an Acura Energy Key Card, providing exclusive benefits and discounts to Acura entertainment partners and special events. However, whether these perks are enough to justify the inflated price tag remains to be seen.
